Description
Preconception is a time of preparation, building health and wellness, and ensuring nutritional levels are optimized. Pregnancy is a dynamic time of change and development for both mother and her growing baby. The demands placed upon a woman’s body during pregnancy are beyond those she will likely experience during any other time in her life. Lactation is also a time of change and high demand, as the rapidly growing infant depends on the quality of mother’s milk to survive and develop at an optimally healthy rate.
Even the best of diets will not provide all the nutrients a woman and her growing baby need if the nutrients are not in the soil in which the food is grown or if food handling or processing depletes nutrient values.
Radiance Multi For Pregnancy, one of the most comprehensive pregnancy multi vitamin and mineral formulas available, providing an array of 32 essential nutrients to help boost a woman’s nutritional strength during these important phases including trace minerals deficient in NZ soils. Radiance® Multi For Pregnancy provides many nutrients not readily available in our local food supply or other prenatal supplements.Whilst the benefits of folic acid supplementation are widely accepted, the value of nutrients such as vitamin K, chromium, iron, iodine, selenium and zinc are often overlooked. Deficiencies in these and other nutrients are relatively common and particularly detrimental during pregnancy.
Chromium is essential or the control of blood sugar levels, weight control and may help reduce the risk of gestational diabetes.
Iron is necessary for the formation of haemoglobin and oxygen transport. Low iron (anaemia) leaves a pregnant woman feeling tired and fatigued, whilst having a detrimental influence on foetal and childhood development.
Iodine is an important factor in determining birth weight a deficiency in-utero and early childhood may significantly impact brain and nervous system development.
Selenium, a mineral very deficient in NZ soils, is important for helping prevent mercury toxicity (of mother and baby), anaemia and the serious pre-labour condition of pre-eclampsia.
Zinc is essential for healthy foetal neurological and immune development and is also important for milk production during lactation.

* PABA also acts as a coenzyme in the breakdown and use of protein. It is used to help formulate red blood cells and maintain healthy bacteria in the gut as well. In addition, PABA may help the intestines produce folic acid. This may be particularly useful for pregnant women since adequate folic acid intake is necessary during pregnancy to prevent birth defects.
Interestingly, a small study conducted on women struggling with fertility suggests that PABA may actually help to improve chances of conceiving.
Food sources of PABA include grains, animal products, spinach, mushrooms and molasses. PABA is widespread in other foods as well. It is recommended that adults consume about 400 micrograms of PABA daily.
Pregnant women should consume twice that amount – about 800 micrograms daily, and lactating women should consume about 600 micrograms daily. Children probably need between 200 and 300 micrograms of PABA per day.
